The officers of the department met
with a great crew from the Old Lyme Volunteer Ambulance Squad this evening. The
meeting was arranged to make plans for the delivery of the “like new”
ambulance that the Connecticut department so graciously donated to HVFD/EMS. The
Old Lyme department was represented by, Barbra McCarthy (Chief of Service), Amy
Nickerson (President of Association), Thomas Bump (Vice President of
Association), and Norman Emerson (Chief Engineer). After that meeting it was
settled upon a Saturday afternoon delivery, and “title signing”.

With cameras clicking, and members
in “awe” of the rig, and all the “gear”, the 1995 Ford had aboard, talk
was mostly of THANK YOU! The OLVA
crew had loaded the new truck with backboards, stair-chairs, bandaging gear,
mast trousers, and loads of other serviceable equipment. Engineer Emerson gave everyone the cab and controls lesson.
Tom, Amy, and Barb answered questions about gear, and other details. The two
“chiefs” then went up to the meeting room, and the new rig was signed over
to HVFD/EMS. After celebrating our new family members, and their wonderful gift,
the officers treated the OLVA crew to a local eatery for supper.

The Hancock crew cannot thank the
Old Lyme crew enough for this generous donation. The new rig will be “in
service” as soon as possible. Click
